First things first: there is no single standard hand luggage regulation. Every airline defines the weight, size and number of hand luggage items individually. In some cases, the rules also depend on the fare you have booked.
With Ryanair, for example, your hand luggage item may measure a maximum of 40 x 20 x 25 cm and must fit under your seat. On Condor flights, the Economy Classic fare allows you to take one item measuring 55 x 40 x 20 cm on board.
As a general guideline, the 55-35-20 rule has become established for hand luggage, meaning that your hand luggage should measure no more than 55 x 35 x 20 cm. You should also avoid exceeding the maximum weight of eight kilograms.
To save you the hassle of doing all the research yourself, we have summarised the hand luggage rules of the most popular airlines. As a little extra service, we also recommend matching products. Simply swipe the table to the left to see the weight information and our backpack recommendations.
Below the table, you will also find a short explanation for each airline, especially because weight limits can sometimes be misleading. It is best to check directly with your airline before departure to find out which rules apply to your hand luggage. This will help you avoid unpleasant surprises or extra costs so that you can focus fully on your holiday instead.
