If you want to use a suitcase as hand luggage, you must observe the airlines' baggage regulations. We'll tell you which sizes and weight specifications apply and recommend the suitcase that suits you best.
Each airline has its own baggage regulations. It specifies how large and heavy hand luggage may be and how much free baggage travellers may take with them. Therefore, general recommendations should always be treated with caution. The 55-35-20 rule was created so that travellers can use it as a guide when looking for a new suitcase or backpack as hand luggage. This describes the maximum permitted dimensions for hand luggage in centimetres: length x width x height. Accordingly, a hand luggage suitcase or rucksack may be a maximum of 55 x 35 x 20 cm in size.
The inch specification (e.g. 15") refers to MacBook models.
The height times width times depth (e.g. 31 x 27 x 3 cm) applies to all other manufacturers.
There are also different maximum weight limits depending on the airline. While Eurowings and Lufthansa set the limit at 8 kilograms, Ryanair allows you to book a large piece of hand luggage weighing up to 10 kilograms. When choosing your carry-on suitcase, also pay attention to the weight; the suitcase should not be too heavy so that you stay within the weight limit of 8 kilograms. Pack efficiently and weigh your suitcase before you book your flight. You can often save money if you book checked baggage online. Checking in your suitcases at the airport counter afterwards costs a lot of time and money!
Weighing 3.1 kilograms and measuring 55 x 38 x 23 cm, the Kapten & Son Heathrow Cabin fulfils the hand luggage requirements of many airlines, such as Eurowings or Lufthansa. The 33 litre capacity makes the Heathrow Cabin a handy space-saving miracle that can easily hold your luggage for a whole weekend. A practical TSA combination lock and interchangeable 360° swivel castors round off the comprehensive features. But it's the clean and minimalist look that makes the Heathrow Cabin an absolute highlight among carry-on suitcases and lets you travel in style. The sophisticated product design also impressed in a test by the Süddeutsche Zeitung.
If you are travelling with Eurowings and have booked the "SMART" fare, you are entitled to one large and one smaller item of hand luggage measuring 40 x 30 x 25 cm. While the Heathrow Cabin is already suitable as a large item of hand luggage, you can make the most of your free baggage allowance and use a practical laptop backpack such as the Bergen Pro All Black as a small item of hand luggage. Measuring 39 x 28 x 11.5 cm, with a padded laptop compartment and side pockets for a small umbrella, it is the ideal addition to your next flight.
