Want to buy a new backpack but are unsure whether your laptop will fit in the compartment? We'll show you how to measure your laptop correctly and tell you how to do it without a tape measure.
A good laptop backpack reliably protects your valuable work equipment and also provides enough storage space for other essentials. To ensure that your laptop is well protected, the compartment should be tailored to its dimensions. Unfortunately, laptops come in different sizes and shapes, which is why it is difficult to give a standardised size. Kapten & Son therefore provides you with two pieces of information about the laptop compartment in the backpacks:
The inch specification (e.g. 15") refers to MacBook models.
The height times width times depth (e.g. 31 x 27 x 3 cm) applies to all other manufacturers.
Place your tape measure across the screen and measure it diagonally. It is important that you really only measure from the top left corner of the screen to the bottom right corner of the screen, without touching the laptop housing, the so-called bezel. Now convert the measurement.
1 inch corresponds to exactly 2.54 centimetres. You therefore need to divide your centimetre value by 2.54. For example, if your screen is 36 centimetres long diagonally, this corresponds to a total of 14 inches. To help you out, we have summarised the most common inch sizes in the following table.
Bildschirmdiagonale in Zentimetern | Bildschirmdiagonale in Zoll | Unsere Empfehlung |

If you don't have a tape measure to hand or are unsure whether you have measured correctly, there is another way to determine the dimensions of your laptop. There are two methods depending on the operating system:
Windows
Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously.
A small window will now appear (Execute). If you enter "msinfo32" in the empty field, a new window will open in which you can read the model and serial number of your device.
Enter the device number into your trusted search engine. On a manufacturer or retailer website, you will most likely also find the dimensions of your laptop among the product information.
Alternatively, you can find the model number on the back of your laptop.
macOS (MacBook)
Open the Apple menu.
Select the option "About this Mac". Here you will find all the information you need.
If you cannot access your MacBook, you will find the serial number on the back of your device.
Thanks to this guide, you can now find out the screen size without tedious mental arithmetic. Once you have all your measurements to hand, it's time to look around for a new backpack. Do something good for your work equipment and opt for a stylish Kapten & Son laptop backpack.
