How to recognise a good pair of sunglasses

The ideal sunglasses reliably protect your eyes from intense sunlight, feel pleasantly lightweight, and impress with a modern look.

When buying your sunglasses, pay attention to the following points:

  • Protection: Sunglasses with a “UV400 factor” offer extensive protection against solar radiation.

  • Fit: The glasses should sit comfortably.

  • Craftsmanship: Clean workmanship on hinges and arms indicates good quality and durability.

  • Weight: A sturdy yet lightweight frame that doesn’t feel heavy even after a long day at the beach.

  • Design: Sunglasses are not only functional but also a fashion piece. Find the look you like among many different colours and frame shapes.

All sunglasses at Kapten & Son offer a UV400 factor. This keeps you protected from strong sunlight, no matter which collection you choose. Our numerous styles suit many different face shapes – if you’re unsure, you can get free advice and have your glasses adjusted in our stores.

How should the perfect sunglasses fit?

Your sunglasses should fit so well that ideally, after a few minutes, you hardly notice them and can wear them comfortably for several hours:

  • The arms sit snugly but securely – they don’t press behind the ears.

  • The nose bridge distributes the weight evenly and doesn’t leave strong pressure marks.

  • Your eyelashes do not touch the lenses.

  • When you tilt or slightly shake your head, the sunglasses stay in place.

  • If you’re unsure about the fit, you can get advice at a store of your choice.

Which sunglasses are trendy in 2026?

Sunglasses are not only practical but also a fashion statement and an expression of your personality. The following sunglasses trends will be popular in 2026:

1. Aviator Glasses

If you’re looking for cool sunglasses, you can’t go past aviators. They are considered timeless design icons and suit many looks. This year, aviators remain a popular accessory.

2. Square Glasses

It’s edgy: in 2026, we celebrate personality, individuality, and being different. With square sunglasses, you stand out from the crowd and make a statement.

3. Oval Sunglasses

Sunglasses with an oval frame appear calm and harmonious due to their shape. A feeling we all need from time to time.

UV Protection & Filter Categories Explained

All sunglasses at Kapten & Son provide 100% protection against UV radiation.

In addition to UV protection, there is also glare protection, which is indicated in categories 0 to 4. Glare protection shows how dark the lens tint is and how much light is let through. The brighter the environment, the higher the required filter category.

Category 1 sunglasses, for example, let through 43% to 80% of light and are suitable for cloudy days. Category 4 lenses are heavily tinted and only allow 3% to 8% of light through. They are ideal for very bright situations, such as reflections on the sea surface. Due to their very low light transmission, these glasses must not be used for driving.

Glasses with tint level 2 are best suited for all everyday situations.
